Farmers Market opens Sunday

With major restrictions and guidelines in place, the 2020 Farmers Market is set to open Sunday, June 14, at Mike Rylko Park on McHenry Road just south of Deerfield Parkway.

Hours for the Market, which is scheduled to run through Oct. 11, are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Buffalo Grove Farmers Market will follow recommendations developed by the Illinois Farmers Market Assn., the Centers for Disease Control, and the Illinois Department of Public Health:

            In general, the guidelines include:

** Visitors must wear a mask and follow CDC recommended hygiene practices.

** If you’re not feeling well, stay home.

** Maintain the required 6-foot distance between yourself, market staff, vendors, and other shoppers.

** If possible, limit attendance to one member of the household.

** Pre-order products where possible to speed up transaction process. Use credit and debit cards for purchases—Customers paying with case are encouraged to use exact change.

** Once at the Market, do not touch products at vendor stands. Vendors will place your items in a single use bag.

** When you get home, wash all products thoroughly before using.

To accommodate social distancing, vendor booths will be spaced one full parking space wide, which means the market now takes up the entire length of the parking lot. Farmers Market organizers say the information booth will be at the market entrance at the north end of the parking lot.

While the Market will have a variety of vendors, some usual features, including entertainment, nonprofit organizations, and business of the week will not be at the site.

“We have a few new vendors and returning favorites,” Paulette Greenberg, co-chair of the Farmers Market Committee says. “Twin Gardens Farm, known for their green bag of Mirai™ corn, sold their farm this past winter,” she says.  However, Greenberg adds that “Lefevor Farms at our south end of the market, will sell this corn as he has the past few summers.” It’s expected the Mirai corn will be ready about the end of July.

More information is available at the  village's web site or at the Farmer Market’s Facebook page.
