“Pride Drive” set for Sunday

With the second annual Pride Parade canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, a “Pride Drive” will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 7.

Participating homes will be decorated with pride décor and individuals will be able to drive by the homes to view them. This effort is organized by the Pinta Pride Project. Participants will be able to follow one of six routes through the village and view homes decorated for Pride Month.

In addition to viewing decorated homes, the Pinta Pride Project is encouraging participants to bring food donations for the Vernon Township and Wheeling Township food pantries.  There will be collection boxes at all homes.  Monetary donations collected during the drive will benefit Brave Safe Alliance.

Major delays likely on Lake-Cook Road

    

        Drivers should expect major delays in the Lake-Cook Road construction zone as traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Raupp Boulevard and Lexington Drive starting Monday, June 8.

This reduction in lanes will remain in effect until this winter, when two lanes will reopen in each direction. The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highway Department is managing this project. Information is available here.

 

Services expand at Village Hall

The village has expanded services available at Village Hall, 50  Raupp Blvd. as part of Phase 3 for the Restore Illinois plan. There is an outside walk-up window at the main entrance to conduct business that cannot be handled online or over the phone. Special hours are being offered for vulnerable residents and senior citizens between 9:30 - 11 a.m. daily inside Village Hall. All other services can be accessed by scheduling an appointment; please call 847-459-2500. Village Hall hours are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

 

Dog park pass sale June 11, 15

In-person pass sales for the Happy Tails Dog Park will take place from 10 am - 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 11 and Monday, June 15 at the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove.

People who wish to obtain a 2020 dog park pass on either of those days will be able to either fax in their forms and payment ahead of time and do a quick pick-up, or complete the transaction in its entirety in-person.

To begin the process ahead of time, fill out and sign all three pages of the registration form, and provide payment and a copy of the dog’s rabies vaccination and fax those documents to (847) 459-5741. The form is available on the Happy Tails Dog Park page of the Park District website at bgparks.org.

New pass holders who do not already have a Park District account will need to provide proof of residency to get the resident rate.

Residents coming to the Alcott Center to purchase the pass in person will be required to wear a facemask inside the building, and maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet at all times.

New 2020 passes will be required to enter the dog park starting on Wednesday, June 17.

 

Park District reopens some facilities

With the state in Phase 3 of the “Restore Illinois” plan, the Buffalo Grove Park District has reopened some facilities and park amenities, including the skate park and inline rink at Mike Rylko Community Park, and the Raupp Museum.

These opening follow the openings in May, of the disc golf courses, Happy Tails Dog Park, and all tennis and pickleball courts – at the time, requiring doubles players to wear facemasks. With today’s update, the mask requirement has been lifted; and, doubles players can also play without masks if they so choose.

The Raupp Museum has reopened with limited access. During Phase 3, the museum is limited to no more than 10 guests in the building at a time. Reservations are being accepted for a maximum of 90 minutes, and can be scheduled by calling (847) 850-2135, or emailing museum@bgparks.org.

A facemask is required at all times while inside the museum; and, people who do not reside in the same household are expected to maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet apart at all times.

While the Fitness Center remains closed for normal operations during Phase 3, the facility is available for one-on-one personal training sessions inside the building.

Anyone interested in scheduling a personal training session, or signing up for virtual online exercise classes, can visit the Fitness Center website at bgfitness.org.

Amenities that remain closed include all playgrounds, and all outdoor basketball and volleyball courts.
